MATH IN ACTION is a free math enrichment program offered by the Ellipsis Academy to challenge our students to reach their maximum potential by developing out-of-the-box thinking and problem-solving skills. 

The program provides 15 sets of challenges between October and May. Each set is published every other week and focus on problem-solving strategies, such as drawing pictures or models, making organized lists, looking for a pattern, working backward, and guess-and-check. Each challenge presents 10 to 18 problems ordered by level of difficulty, which enables students from various grades to participate.

ℹī¸ General Information

  • The Math Challenge Program is FREE, and NO SIGN-UP is required!
  • All students in Kindergarten through Grade 5 are invited to participate.
  • A new challenge is released every other week.
  • There are 15 challenges from October 2026 through May 2027. Students can join at any time!
  • Students who submit their answers by the designated deadlines can earn prizes in the winter and spring.
  • Please refer to the calendar below for challenge release dates and submission deadlines.

 

🧠 How to Participate

1. Get the current challenge.

Visit https://www.mathinaction.org/current-math-challenge.html, and print the latest problem set.

2. Solve the problems.

Try to solve as many questions as you can! You are welcome to discuss the problems with friends and family members.

Recommended minimum number of problems to solve:

    • Kindergarten & Grade 1: At least 3 problems
    • Grades 2 & 3: At least 7 problems
    • Grades 4 & 5: At least 12 problems

3. Submit your answers online.

When you are ready, submit your answers using the Math Challenge Submission Form https://forms.gle/EEC3aQp9XoFoY8zM6 before the deadline.  

4. Check the solutions and learn!

Solutions will be released along with the next challenge. Review your work, explore different problem-solving strategies, and reflect on your approach.

 

🏆 Recognition and Prizes

Students will have two chances to win prizes throughout the school year, plus a special prize at the end to celebrate their participation and effort!

  • Prize 1: After January 7, 2027

Students who have submitted 3 or more challenges from MC2–MC6 will receive a prize.

  • Prize 2: After April 1, 2027

Students who have submitted 3 or more challenges from MC7–MC12 will receive a prize.

  • Final Prize: MC2-MC15: After May 14, 2027

Students who have submitted all 14 challenges from MC2–MC15 will receive a special reward.
