Golden Acorn & Advocate Winners!

Apollo Elementary PTA would like to congratulate the following winners of our 2014-2015 Golden Acorn and Outstanding Advocate Awards:

Golden Acorn Award

Candy Eiler
Candy has done an outstanding job leading the PTA Membership campaign this year.   She willingly steps up to help if there is a need, joining the committees for Spirit Wear and the Spring Dance, and always has a positive can-do attitude.

Katey Curtis
Katey has served as one of the VP’s of Fundraising on the PTA board this year.  She has spearheaded new programs and fundraisers for the benefit of the school like Orange Ruler, pre-ordered school supplies, and the selling flowers at performance events like Missoula Children’s Theater and Variety Show.    Katey is also a chairperson for committees including Spirt Wear, S.W.A.G, and Popcorn Friday.

Outstanding Advocate Award

Marta Burnet
Marta has done a great job keeping the PTA involved with our state legislators.  She arranged for a group to visit the Capitol on Focus Day in January, introducing our kids to state government and making a presence on behalf of our district and school.  In addition to serving on the PTA Board as President, Marta also participated on Apollo’s Site Council team and stepped into the Advocacy role when there was a vacancy.  Marta continues to advocate for the ELL community, spearheading the translation of the student handbook into Spanish and working with Mrs. Mundell to have a Spanish Curriculum Night this year.

Christi Schumann
Christi is an amazing behind the scenes advocate for many PTA sponsored programs. Her enthusiasm and expertise in the area of grant writing has helped to bring many new activities to Apollo. This year, Christi helped secure funding to support Recess Fitness, Nutrition and RAZ-Kid, and has submitted additional grants and requests to add musical instruments to the forest and additional blacktop activities on the playground. She is the chairperson for Reading A-Z, an important literacy program for the Kinder and 1st grades.

Congratulations to all 4 winners and thank you to everyone that submitted your nominations!  We have so many fantastic volunteers at Apollo!

Does your company offer a corporate match program for nonprofit organizations?

Matching gifts are typically overlooked.   In 2012, The Chronicle of Philanthropy released a report entitled “How America’s Biggest Companies Give.” Two of the top 5 matching companies are right here in our community: Boeing and Microsoft. In fact, 65% of Microsoft employees request matching company contributions from their employer. Does your company have a matching gift program? If so, now is a great time to submit your Apollo PTA donations for matching.

Did you know that many employers will match your time, too? Apollo PTA has received over $7500 in contributions from our school family documenting and submitting their volunteer hours to their employer for matching this school year alone! What a great way to give back to our school AND have your employer support your child’s school.
