WOW - We had 246 participants at the Science Fair this year! We hope you enjoyed all of the fun hands-on exhibits and learned something new from our young scientists.

The Science Fair is a huge endeavor and it takes many volunteers to make it happen. Thank you to everyone who pitched in. If you are interested in participating on the planning committee for the 2018 event, please contact sciencefair@apollopta.org today!

Staff Appreciation Week is May 1-5!!

Let's show our teachers and staff how much we appreciate them during Apollo PTA's "Market Fresh" Staff Appreciation Week! There are several volunteer slots and donated items needed. Please CLICK HERE to view the Sign-up Genius.

The Apollo Students can show their appreciation this week as well. Here's how they can participate each day:

Monday - "Fill Your Teacher's Bucket" Students can write thank you notes at recess or bring cards from home to give to their teachers.

Tuesday - "Book Dedication" Students can donate a new or gently used book to their classroom.

Wednesday - "Flowers" Students can bring fresh flowers or homemade paper flowers to teachers and staff.

Thursday - "Pamper Your Teacher" Students can say a kind word or be extra helpful to all Apollo teachers and staff!

Friday - "Favorite Things" The Apollo Staff "favorite things" binder is in the workroom. Surprise your teacher by wearing their favorite color or giving them one of their favorite items listed.

Apollo Kindergarten Play Dates

Do you have a Kindergartner starting at Apollo this Fall?  It is an exciting time, though full of unknowns for both parents and students. As Apollo PTA Parents, we are here to answer your questions while your Kindergartener gets to know their new peers!

Please join us for our summer play date series called KinderConnect.  It is the ideal opportunity to obtain vital information and contacts before the first day of school and also allows your child to socialize with other kids their age.  We will schedule at least two play dates, dates and times will be announced in the coming months.  You are encouraged to participate in either or both--come and go, just drop by or stay and play!

Shop on Amazon?  Use Amazon Smile and benefit our children!
If you shop at Amazon, please visit smile.amazon.com, or click on the button in the left tool bar.  Make sure you add Apollo Elementary PTA (city listed is Tacoma) as your charity of choice.  Then, 0.5% of every qualifying Amazon purchase will be donated to our PTA, to benefit programs for our children!  Let’s take advantage of this easy way to raise money.

Does your company offer a corporate match program for nonprofit organizations?

Matching gifts are typically overlooked.   In 2012, The Chronicle of Philanthropy released a report entitled "How America's Biggest Companies Give." Two of the top 5 matching companies are right here in our community: Boeing and Microsoft. In fact, 65% of Microsoft employees request matching company contributions from their employer. Does your company have a matching gift program? If so, now is a great time to submit your Apollo PTA donations for matching.

Did you know that many employers will match your time, too? Apollo PTA has received over $7500 in contributions from our school family documenting and submitting their volunteer hours to their employer for matching this school year alone! What a great way to give back to our school AND have your employer support your child’s school.
