Math is Cool Competition

Calling for 4th to 5th grade mathematicians

Math is Cool is a math competition hosted by Academics is Cool for grades 4-12 in WA. It began in 1996 and over 8,000 students participate every year. It is both a team and an individual competition. Students in the same grade will compete in teams, and each team will have 4 members. Participants will earn individual awards as well as represent their school to earn team awards. The top winning teams at the regionals will proceed to the State Level Master Championships.

This year Apollo PTA will organize teams to participate in 4th grade and 5th grade Math is Cool Champs competition. For 3rd graders, if you are advanced in math and would like to compete in 4th grade level, you can also sign up.

Teams can be formed freely. Every team needs one parent to act as team coach and point of contact. The team coach is responsible for signing up for your whole team and paying the team fee. Each team’s competition fee is $60.

Each grade could have up to 8 teams. The first 8 confirmed teams in the sign-up form receiving order will be selected for each grade. Students in 4th and 5th grade will have priority over 3rd graders.

Please sign up before February 2nd, 2024 via Google form. After you completed the Google form, you will receive an email with the online payment link to complete your registration!

*If you need help to form a team, please email us (mathiscool@apollopta.org) providing your student’s name, grade, class and contact email before January 19th. We will share the individual students’ information and help to connect parents for team forming. The minimum requirement for a team is 3 members.

**If you are unable to form a team after that, you can choose to compete as an
individual. Their scores will not be counted under Apollo. The individual competition fee is $15.

***Please note that individual registration is the last option when we reach the maximum teams or there are less than 3 individuals left out.

There is no school, teacher or PTA organized practice or coach event for this year. Parent team coaches will work with your team members to organize practices by yourself as needed. There will be practicing resources and tips sent to parent coaches after registration.
