Board Elected Positions

  • Co-Presidents: Michelle Kauffman & Rachel Mancia-Moreno 
    • High commitment
    • Leads all PTA efforts, collaborates with the principal, attends PTSA Council/Site Council/general meetings, manages grants, creates the PTA calendar, and represents the PTA at events
  • Co-Vice Presidents: OPEN (2)
    • High commitment 
    • Supports the President, helps oversee PTA operations, and steps in when needed
  • Secretary: Isabel Van Wyk
    • Low commitment  
    • Prepares meeting agendas, takes minutes, and manages PTA records
  • Treasurer: Haya Dredge
    • Medium commitment
    • Manages PTA finances, budget, taxes, and filings. Tracks staff allotments and handles bank reconciliations 

Board Appointed Positions

  • Director of Communications: OPEN
    • High commitment
    • Oversees all PTA communications, including newsletters, website, email, and social media
  • Co-Directors of Events: Kristi Geissler & OPEN
    • High commitment
    • Plans and executes school-wide events such as Back-to-School and Spring events
  • Director of Fundraising: Alecia Hawthorne-Heyel & OPEN
    • High commitment  
    • Leads major fundraising campaigns like Rocket Boost and Ready, Set, Rocket! Fun Run
  • Director of Programs: OPEN (2)
    • High commitment
    • Supports and coaches leads for programs, such as Yearbook, Math in Action, and Read at Home
  • Director of Volunteers: Rachel Larson & OPEN
    • High commitment
    • Recruits and organizes volunteers for PTA programs and events

Board Standing Committee

  • Advocacy: OPEN
    • Low commitment
    • Represents Apollo PTA at Legislative Assembly and Focus Day to support education funding (Oct/Feb events)
  • Art Docent Chair: Jessica Braswell
    • High commitment  
    • Coordinates volunteer-led monthly art lessons using provided curriculum and training
  • FACE (Family & Community Engagement) Chair: Claudia Romo
    • Medium commitment  
    • Coordinates Cultural Ambassadors, supports multilingual families, and partners with community groups
  • ISF Ambassador: Shelby Scovel
    • Low commitment  
    • Serves as table captain for the ISF luncheon and shares ISF news with the PTA (main event in Oct)
  • Membership Chairs: OPEN (2)
    • Medium commitment   
    • Promotes PTA membership, manages member database, and coordinates with WA State PTA (especially busy in Sept)
  • Outreach Chairs: OPEN (2)
    • Medium commitment  
    • Leads food, clothing, and supply drives, and manages snack and weekend meal programs
  • ParentWiser Coordinator: OPEN 
    • Low commitment  
    • Coordinates parent education opportunities in partnership with local organizations
  • Special Needs Liaison: Jennifer Khumalo

    • Serves as a resource and representative for families receiving special services
  • Teacher Liaison: Emily Mitchell
    • Always a school teacher appointed by the school principal 
    • Appointed by the principal to share information between staff and PTA (non-voting Board Member)

Non-PTA Board Chair Positions (Report to Board Directors)

  • Audit Committee: OPEN (2)
    • Low commitment, 2-3 hours in June/July 
    • Conducts year-end review of PTA finances (2–3 hours in June/July)
  • Awards/Recognition Committee: OPEN (2)
    • Low commitment, March and April 
    • Manages the nomination and selection process for PTA awards like Golden Acorn (Mar–Apr)
  • Book Fair Committee: Thais Mccoy, Rachel Mancia-Moreno, & Candace
    • Medium commitment (twice a year, fall and spring)  
    • Assists with setup, student support, and sales during Fall and Spring book fairs
  • Emergency Preparedness: Michelle Kauffman
    • Low commitment, in Summer   
    • Inventories and restocks classroom emergency backpacks each summer
  • Fall Festival Committee: Alecia Hawthorne-Heyel & Kristi Geissler
    • Medium commitment, event in October   
    • Plans October family event including venue, tickets, and promotion
  • Kangaroo Math: Jianfeng Geng & OPEN
    • Medium commitment
    • Coordinates student registration and logistics for Kangaroo Math competition    
  • Math In Action (MIA) Committee: Amy Martin & OPEN
    • Medium commitment  
    • Prepares digital worksheets, manages student tracking, and prize distribution
  • Math Is Cool: Yiyun Zhang & OPEN 
    • Medium commitment
    • Oversees the Math is Cool enrichment program
  • Multicultural Night Committee: Nancy Yeung & OPEN (2)
    • High commitment, event in May 
    • Organizes booths and entertainment for the event to celebrate diverse cultures at Apollo
  • Nominating Committee: OPEN every year
    • Medium commitment, January through May (a few hours a month) 
    • Recruits candidates for PTA positions with elections held in April
  • Orange Ruler Fun Run Fundraiser Committee: OPEN (3)
    • Medium commitment, spring 
    • Works closely with the Director of Fundraising to create a fun and engaging fundraiser and fun run
  • Passive Fundraiser Chair: OPEN
    • Low commitment  
    • Identifies and coordinates low-effort fundraising opportunities (e.g., restaurant nights)
  • Popcorn Committee: Brandy Peters-Mayer & Shannon Gunderson 
    • Medium to high commitment  
    • Organizes monthly popcorn Fridays, including inventory and volunteer coordination
  • Read at Home (RAH) Committee: James Ash & OPEN
    • Medium commitment  
    • Runs reading incentive program, tracks minutes, manages prizes (3 events/year) 
  • Reflections Committee: OPEN (2)
    • Low commitment, end of September to November   
    • Manages National PTA Art Program entries and judging (Sept–Nov, 10–15 hours)
  • Rocket Fuel Fundraiser Committee: OPEN (3)
    • Medium commitment, fall  
    • Works closely with the Director of Fundraising to create a fun and engaging fall fundraiser
  • Staff Appreciation Committee: Michelle Chou & Haya Dredge 
    • Medium commitment  
    • Coordinates year-round staff appreciation events and Teacher Appreciation Week
  • School Supplies Committee: Vivian Kahoang & Jiajia Fan
    • Low commitment, March through August   
    • Coordinates supply list updates and kit distribution
  • Spirit Wear: OPEN
    • Low commitment  
    • Manages online spirit wear sales, vendor communication, and inventory
  • STEAM Fair Committee: Michelle Chou, Rachel Mancia-Moreno, Isabel Van Wyk
    • Medium to high commitment, August to December  
    • Organizes the STEAM Fair by coordinating project submissions, guidelines, and logistics for the event (most work in December)
  • Talent Show Committee: OPEN (3)
    • Medium commitment, January through March  
    • Plans and oversees the Talent Show, including auditions, rehearsals, and performances
  • Winter Festival Committee: Schelene Willis, Amanda Devenuti & OPEN 
    • Medium to high commitment   
    • Organizes a winter-themed family event with games and movies (Nov–Jan)
  • Yearbook: OPEN (2)
    • Medium to high commitment  
    • Editor: Helps with the layout and proofreading of the yearbook
    • Communications: Manages sales, marketing, and sponsorships (60 minutes/month)
    • Liaison: Collects and organizes photos from staff and teachers (60-90 minutes/month; more from Feb to April)
    • Photographer: Backup photographer for events
